Monica Oakes shares literature about the women aviators’ organization The Ninety-Nines with Willow, right, and Chloe Temple at Aviation Day, held inside Don Fitzpatrick’s hangar at the Methow Valley State Airport on Saturday. Oakes and several other local and regional aviators shared information about aviation history, education, careers and mechanics at the event — a kickoff to Women in Aviation Week. Sisters Willow and Chloe are among around 100 women and girls who came to the event to learn about aviation and sign up for free flights taking place this week at both the state airport and Twisp Municipal Airport. “This will be their first time in an airplane,” said the girls’ dad, Jason. “We are pretty stoked for the ladies to be able to fly.”
