Loup Loup team has good day at Stevens

February 27, 2014 by Methow Valley News

By Mike Maltais

The Loup Loup Alpine Ski Team took eight girls and five boys to compete in the Wild Katz ski races at Stevens Pass Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 21 and Feb. 22).

The events included a giant slalom on Saturday followed by Sunday’s slalom.

“The course was a little rough,” coach Ingrid Patterson said of Saturday’s GS in the new, soft snow, “but they held on to it and made it down.”

Saturday GS

3rd Gabby Studen, U8 girls.

7th Taylor Meyer, U10 girls.

8th Eva Weymuller, U12 girls.

Sunday Slalom

2nd Damon Alumbaugh, U8 boys.

10th Taylor Meyer, U10 girls.

9th Eva Weymuller, U12 girls.

7th Ali Palm, U14 girls.

Carter and Graham Sheley finished in the top 20 U10 boys.

“Avery Catlin, U10, Olivia Glenn, U10, Hannah Weymuller, U14, and Cailin Chandler, U14, skied strong and gave it their best effort,” Patterson said.

Aidan Catlin, U12, and Brayden Meyer, U8, were also competitors from the Loup.

“It has been challenging with little home training,” Patterson said. “Now that the Loup is open we hope to get some quality training in.”

The Loup team will next race at the U12 Championships at Stevens Pass on March 7 – 9 and U14 Championships March 14 – 16 at Crystal Mountain.
