Sheila Ward joins MVN Staff

Sheila Ward has joined the staff of the Methow Valley News as an advertising assistant. Ward previously worked at the Melbourn Insurance Agency, Duck Brand Hotel and Cantina, Flat Earth Surveying & Mapping, Erlandsen & Associates, and Sun Mountain Lodge. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore. Ward lives in Winthrop with her son Oscar, who is a sophomore at Liberty Bell High School.

Sun Mountain wins wine award

Sun Mountain Lodge has received the Grand Award in the annual Washington State Wine Awards for 2014, which honors restaurants, retailers, hotels, tourism professionals and distributors who play a vital role in promoting Washington state as a destination point for outstanding wines. Wine Director Don Elsing represented Sun Mountain Lodge at the awards event in Seattle.

New clinic opens at Brewster hospital

Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster is leasing space to North Central Washington Health-Brewster, an independent clinic.

“We had several choices of where to put the clinic in Brewster but chose the hospital site for convenience for the patients and for the services provided by the hospital,” Eldon Leinweber, CEO of the clinic, said in a press release.

NCWH is owned by Leinweber and Eldon Hawkins. The new clinic will provide full family care including women’s and men’s preventative care, occupational health as well as L&I, minor surgical care, pediatrics to geriatrics, and urgent care.

The clinic is scheduling appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Call (509) 689-0976 or (509) 888-9606.

Free tax workshop in East Wenatchee

The state Department of Revenue is offering a free tax workshop for new and small business owners on Feb. 18 in East Wenatchee. The workshop will be from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Fire District office, 377 Eastmont Ave. Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection, and record-keeping requirements.
