Red Solo Cup Big Wheel Time Trials Obstacle Course Championship Smack Down Race of the Universe

January 30, 2014 by Methow Valley News

Jan. 28, 2014 marked the first annual Red Solo Cup Big Wheel Time Trials Obstacle Course Championship Smack Down Race of the Universe, in which 12 grown women rode a lime-green and black Huffy three-wheeler around a timed course at the TwispWorks parking lot. One practice run was allowed per rider, and penalties were incurred for going off course or for hitting one of the red Solo cup lane markers. Janet Mehus was the course judge and official timer. Mo Kelley-Akker, “Mo Fasta,” was the event organizer and eventual winner with a time of 34.38 seconds. Kelley-Akker said her inspiration for the race came after she received the three-wheeler as a Christmas present from her brother. Second place went to “The Twelfth Woman,” Veronica Wengerd, with a time of 39.38 seconds. Mary-Ann Yakabi, “Chicken Little,” came in third with a time of 45.66 seconds.
