Changes to county’s festival permit procedures
Okanogan County is considering amending its procedures for permits for festivals and other temporary gatherings.
Under the new procedures, the application would be filed with the Planning Department instead of the county commissioners.
Required application materials will vary depending on the nature of the festival, but the landowner on whose property the festival takes place has the ultimate responsibility for complying with the terms of the permit.
All applicants will be required to provide a thorough description of the event, including the maximum number of attendees, security, types of food service and alcoholic beverages available, and provisions for solid waste and wastewater disposal.
Some events, particularly those involving more than 3,000 people, may be required to go through a public hearing before approval.
People may comment on the new ordinance in writing or at the county’s public hearing. For more information or to submit comments, contact Senior Planner Ben Rough at (509) 422-7122, or brough@co.okanogan.wa.us.
The Okanogan County planning commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the commissioners’ hearing room in Okanogan.
