Winter Jazz at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp will return beginning Jan. 14 and continue with two more shows on Feb. 22 and March 28.
Each of the three shows will feature a slightly different ensemble. Pianist Lynette Westendorf and guitarist Terry Hunt have put together a core quartet that includes Wenatchee musicians and longtime collaborators Mike Conrad on drums and Steve Sanders on bass.
At the opening performance, the Hunt/Westendorf Quartet will be joined by horn players Wayne Mendro and Chris “Breathe” Frue. An all-original program will feature some of the group’s favorite songs from Frue’s Jazz Journey era, as well as newly penned works. The mid-week performance will be a continuation of the music birthday party tradition for Westendorf.
On Feb. 22, the quartet will be joined again by Mendro, as well as trumpet player Bob Hougham and a few special guests, including Laura Love on vocals. The opening set will feature the Pipestone Ensemble, directed by trombonist and arranger Mike Harvey, who will also be performing during the second set.
At the March 28 show, the quartet will be joined by trumpet players Jim Knodle from Seattle and Bob Hougham from Omak. All shows are at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission ranges from $5 to $15. For information, call Lynette at 996-3418.
