Senior news: Dec. 18, 2013

December 19, 2013 by Methow Valley News

Senior CenterBy Rosalie Hutson

This month and year are on a mad dash to be over. It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that it was election time and here it is almost time again.

The Christmas Sale room is now selling items $3 a bag. The last few days, it will be free. It’s amazing how much stuff has been sold and yet still looks full, so let’s clean it out so I don’t have to.

Santa will visit for the seniors’ Christmas party on Monday (Dec. 23). So bring a small gift for the exchange. Santa will be giving out goodie bags, too.

The Pipestone School of Music and Youth Orchestra came Friday and played some music for us at lunchtime. So much music out of such small children and small violins. They are always great. Thank you again for sharing with us.

Don’t forget the Methow Valley Snowmobile Association’s free Christmas community dinner here at the center from noon – 2 p.m. on Dec. 25. There is always lots of good food and entertainment. No cooking and cleaning up — just eat, then go home and take a nap.

Senior Menu

Thursday, Dec. 19: Pepper steak, rice, spinach salad, fruit cocktail, whole wheat bread or roll, frosted cake.

Friday, Dec. 20: Barbecue chicken, garden vegetable salad, green beans, Oregon berries, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, sherbet.

Monday, Dec. 23: Baked ham, au gratin potatoes, tossed vegetable salad, glazed carrots, tropical fruit salad, whole wheat roll, bread-and-raisin pudding.

Thursday, Dec. 26: Spaghetti and meat sauce, Caesar salad, green beans, mixed fruit salad, garlic bread, frosted cake.

Friday, Dec. 27: Salmon with dill sauce, wild rice, peas and carrots, coleslaw, chilled peaches, whole wheat roll, pudding.

Meals are at noon in the Methow Valley Senior Center on Highway 20 in Twisp. The suggested donation is $3.25 for seniors over age 60; cost is $7.50 for those under 60. For more information, call 997-7722.
