LBHS juniors selling fruit, raffle tickets for D.C. trip

December 19, 2013 by Methow Valley News

WashDCLiberty Bell High School’s junior class is once again selling fresh-picked oranges and grapefruits, along with raffle tickets, to raise money for an educational trip to Washington, D.C.

Junior class students will travel to the nation’s capital in March to participate in Close Up, a weeklong educational program focusing on U.S. government. While in Washington, students observe Congress in action, meet with their representatives, and visit national monuments and museums.

The juniors are selling California-grown fruit in 20-pound boxes for $27, and 40-pound boxes for $49. The fruit is picked and shipped on the same day, and will be delivered by the middle of March. The fruit can be ordered directly from a participating student or by calling Liberty Bell High School, 996-2215.

On Jan. 13, 2014, the class will host a raffle drawing and dessert social at the Twisp Valley Grange, featuring entertainment by Lauralee Northcott, Gregg Hardy, Fred Cooley, and The High Country Kickers. Cost is $10 and the doors open at 6 p.m. with the raffle at 7 p.m.

Students are selling raffle tickets until the Jan. 13 event. Raffle prizes are being donated by local businesses.
