Celebrate the solstice

Winter solstice is Saturday (Dec. 21), and the Methow Valley Interpretive Center is partnering with The Methow Naturalist to offer a free program at the center in Twisp to explain and celebrate the historically significant event.

“The Science and Spirit of the Solstice,” which begins at 7 p.m., will be presented by local naturalist Dana Visalli. He will trace the history of human observance of the solstice over thousands of years, from Stonehenge to New Mexico. Also included will be poetry by Pattiann Rogers and a video by Carl Sagan. For more information, call 997-7011.

Free Christmas dinner

The Methow Valley Snowmobile Association is hosting its annual free Christmas dinner at the Methow Valley Senior Center in Twisp on Christmas day from noon-2 p.m. The community is invited to share a full dinner and dessert. For more information, call 996-2378.
