Ken Bajema has been named interim marshal for the Town of Winthrop, Mayor Dave Acheson announced.
Bajema, who has been a Winthrop deputy since 2010, will fill in for former Marshal David Dahlstrom, who resigned recently to resume his military career. The town’s other deputy, Seth Carlson, was hired in March 2013.
Dahlstrom became a town deputy in September 2007 and was named marshal in 2009. Acheson said Winthrop will soon begin advertising for a permanent replacement, through the town’s civil service commission. The mayor said it’s hoped a new marshal can be hired by February or March of next year.
Acheson said that with reduced activity in town compared to summer, two law enforcement officers should be adequate until a third is hired.
