The annual visit of the Missoula Children’s Theatre to the Methow Valley gets underway Monday (Nov. 18) with auditions for a production of Blackbeard the Pirate, beginning at 3:15 p.m. at Methow Valley Elementary School.
The play will be performed at 3 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 23 at the school. Cost is $5 for children and $8 for adults. Free tickets are available for clients of The Cove, Room One, and the Methow Valley Senior Center at those establishments. For more information, call Methow Arts, 997-4004 or email info@methowartsalliance.org.
Auditions are open to all students K-12. Not all students will be cast in parts. Auditioning is free; there is a $25 residency fee for those cast in the production. Some scholarships are available.
Among the roles to be cast are Blackbeard and his crew of bearded pirates, sailors, cranky crabs and crocodiles, magical mermaids and seaweed creatures, parrots and beach bums.
No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency is presented by Methow Arts Alliance. Local sponsors include The Chewuch Inn, Winthrop Kiwanis, the Methow Valley Fund, Public School Funding Alliance and the Methow Valley School District, with additional support by the National Endowment for the Arts and ArtsWA.
