Listening in

November 7, 2013 by Methow Valley News

VenableAt the first of two “Community Listening Sessions” at the Winthrop Fire Hall on Saturday (Nov. 2), Methow Valley School District Superintendent Tom Venable – center, with Hanz Sholz and Sam Lucy – solicited input from 19 attendees on how well the district is doing its job and what changes could be made to better educate its students. The participants – mostly parents with kids in the schools – shared concerns about helping all kids feel included, the importance of arts education, the desire to have a mentoring program for all students, and the need for more frequent teacher/student conferences to keep students on track. Venable plans to “share back” with the community at an event in late January. A second listening session will be held at TwispWorks at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 7).
