In a warm-up game before facing undefeated Bridgeport, the Liberty Bell High School varsity girls soccer team held off tenacious Oroville, 3-2, in action at the Hornets’ home pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Lauren Fitzmaurice scored twice for Liberty Bell, once off an assist from Estrella Corrigan and the second time unassisted. The freshman striker then set up Mia Kennedy, who scored the winning goal for Liberty Bell.

Fitzmaurice, playing only her second game since returning to action from a double bone break in her arm sustained in mid-September, received Player of the Week honors for her goal and two assists against Manson the week previous.

The Lady Lions were at Bridgeport Thursday (Oct. 24) attempting to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Fillies on Liberty Bell’s home field Oct. 10.

This time two determined teams battled to a 0-0 tie in overtime before Bridgeport pulled out a 5-4 win on penalty kicks.

The 4-2 Lady Lions are currently in second place in the Central Washington 2B League behind 6-0 Bridgeport.

Liberty Bell was scheduled to travel to winless Manson Tuesday (Oct. 29) for a 4 p.m. game against the Trojans. Earlier this month the Lady Lions shut out Manson, 5-0, on Liberty Bell’s home pitch.
