
Samuel Green, Washington state’s first poet laureate, is in the Methow Valley this month to offer a reading and poetry workshops, and to visit regional schools.
Green will be at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp on Oct. 25 beginning at 7 p.m. The appearance will also feature readings by his wife, Sally Green, and local poets. Tickets are $15 for adults or $5 for students (suggested price) and are available at Methow Arts, Twisp Daily Business and www.brownpapertickets.com.
Green will offer adult poetry workshops on Oct. 23 and 24 at the ARTscapes Studio, 213 Glover St. in Twisp, beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day. To register for the workshops, call 997-4004 or email info@methowartsalliance.org.
Green, who was born in Sedro-Woolley and raised in Anacortes, has taught poetry in various venues for more than 30 years. He is currently Distinguished Visiting Northwest Writer at Seattle University. He has published 10 collections of poems. In 2007, Green was named by then-Gov. Chris Gregoire to a two-year term as the inaugural poet laureate for the state. In 2009, he was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry.
