Lady Lions beat Lake Roosevelt

October 17, 2013 by Methow Valley News

By Mike Maltais

The Liberty Bell High School varsity girls’ volleyball team spread the wealth around the court, so to speak, as each member of the Lady Lions team that saw action helped her teammates stop the visiting Lake Roosevelt Raiders, 3-1, in a match played last Thursday (Oct. 10).

It took two games for the Raiders to establish a rhythm sufficient to win, but Lake Roosevelt didn’t come with enough intensity to stop the Lady Lions’ offense.

Following an easy 25-9 win in game one, Liberty Bell found itself trailing the resurgent Raiders in a 25-18 loss in game two.

It may have been the support from cheering classmates wearing cut out volleyballs as skullcaps that made the difference as deciding games three and four went to Liberty Bell, 25-16 and 25-19.

Once again the combination of Whitney Fox and Sarina Williams at the net, Baylee Canedo, Dana Anderson and Katherine Tannehill in the back court, Taylor Curtiss where she always seemed to be needed, Ashley Watson with her bullet serves and Erin Schuh subbing as needed kept Liberty Bell on top through the stretch.

The Lady Lions were scheduled to meet Mansfield on the road Tuesday (Oct. 15) followed by the Hornets at Oroville Thursday (Oct. 17).

Next Tuesday (Oct. 22) at 5 p.m. Liberty Bell will host a tough Bridgeport team that defeated the Lady Lions, 5-3, earlier this month.
