The Liberty Bell High School varsity girls’ soccer team took the visiting Oroville Hornets to the proverbial woodshed for a 9-0 spanking Tuesday, (Oct. 1), and several Lady Lions wielded the paddle.
A total of seven players got in on the scoring action in spite of injuries that continue to whittle away at the roster. Freshman midfielder Cassidy Butler was the latest player to leave the pitch with a shoulder injury.
In the meantime, midfielders Ella Hall and Danielle Mott knocked in two goals apiece while MacKenzie Woodworth, Haley Post, Mia Kennedy, Corinne Dietz and Anna Post added one each.
That’s all the more impressive considering that among the latter five, freshman Kennedy, voted 1B/2B Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 23-28, is the “old lady” of the group. Her four scoring teammates are all eighth-graders.
The Lady Lions were scheduled to meet the Bulldogs at Okanogan Tuesday (Oct. 8). Bridgeport will be in town for a 5 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 10) before Liberty Bell travels to Lions Field in Moses Lake to play Connell on Saturday (Oct. 12).
