Annual crab feed raises money for scholarships

October 9, 2013 by Methow Valley News

Get your bibs and claw-crackers ready. The sixth annual Brandenburg Memorial Crab Feed and Auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 12) at the Winthrop Barn. Serving will continue until about 9 p.m.

The event raises money for the Jordan and Chase Brandenburg Scholarship. Several years ago the Brandenburg family established a nonprofit foundation to provide educational scholarships to Liberty Bell High School graduates in memory of their sons Jordan and Chase. The scholarships are geared to wrestlers and others involved in the sport. Consideration is given to applicants’ grades, goals for further education and community service.

The evening’s activities include a silent auction featuring donated items from local merchants and artists – as well as jerseys from former University of Washington football star Jake Locker and Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson.

Sheila Brandenburg said she hopes this year’s event will raise about $7,000 for scholarships. She said organizers can serve about 400 meals.

The base price for dinner is $25; extra crabs are $10 per crab per person. Children’s tickets are $10. There will be a no-host bar. Tickets are available at the Tenderfoot or Pardners Mini Market in Winthrop, and at Blue Star Coffee Roasters and Twisp River Suites in Twisp. For more information, call (509) 679-7300.
