The Liberty Bell Booster Club’s second annual miniature golf tournament raised $200 last weekend along with the expectation that there will be a third annual such event next year.
Seven teams turned out at Sheri’s Sweet Shoppe in Winthrop Sunday (Sept. 22) for the intense competition including one, the Speed Racers, comprised of members from Liberty Bell High School’s varsity cross-country team just back from their sixth-place finish at the Wenatchee Invitational.
Participants ponied up $25 for each four-member team and got to it.
A team called Fore from Okanogan County Fire District 6 made up of Mark Crum, Jeremiah Fosness, Brian McAuliffe and Bill McAdow took top honors with second place going to the Sub Pars – Byron Braden, Vikki Buzzard, Kurt Oakley and Theresa Remsberg – from Aero Methow Rescue Service.
Other teams that turned out included the Bengal Tigers, Ultimate Mallards, Winthrop Kiwanis and the Gamers.
First prize donated by Sweet Shoppe owners Doug and Sheri Mohre was four rounds of mini golf that the winners, Fore, awarded to the Gamers – Zane and Zeke Grubb, Gavin Headlee and Tyler White, who finished last – so the youngsters might get in some extra practice toward next September’s tournament.
