Emery Reginal Halterman, born Oct. 24, 1924, in Falls City, Wash., died Sept. 11, 2013, in Shelton, Wash., He married Naomi Park on Aug. 24, 1946.
He is survived by his three daughters Sally Carl, Cherie Olsen and Vicki Plowman; seven grandchildren, Bill Woodworth, Cindy Titterington, Naomi Cooper, Emery Carl, Amanda Carr, Glenn Plowman and Molly Plowman; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Woodworth, Reggie and Isaac Cooper, Emily Titterington and Wiley Massey Carr.
Emery Reginal Halterman, who grew up in the Methow Valley, was an entrepreneur. He went into business with his father when he got home from the Navy after WWII. They owned the Methow Valley Meat Company from 1946 to 1973. He also got his commercial pilot’s license through the GI Bill. He used the plane with his business and flew to auctions. He also helped people locally who needed to fly places. He would fly the politicians to Olympia. He helped the U.S. Forest Service and dropped supplies to workers in the mountains. He worked with stocks and commodities. He had a good business mind and retired in his late 40s.
Emery and his wife, Naomi, would go south for the winter and loved to travel. They always took time to visit family. He was a family man and had a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss his presence but have wonderful memories of Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. Thank you, God, for preparing a place for him. We will meet again someday in heaven.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Beaver Creek Cemetery in Twisp on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. Condolences may be sent to Sally Carl, 542 E. Fir St., Shelton, WA 98584.
