A strong core of veterans and upperclassmen will be on the court for the Liberty Bell High School varsity girls’ volleyball team this season, though most didn’t have enough practices to be eligible to compete at last Saturday’s Okanogan Jamboree.
Despite the loss of Cierra Ebbert and Keanna King to graduation and Zoey Marchiney to transfer, four All-League nominees from last season are back. They include senior Taylor Curtiss, All-League MVP, junior Baylee Canedo, last year’s All-League libero, and juniors Sarina Williams and Ashley Watson. They will be joined by seniors Dana Anderson and Katherine Tannehill, juniors Torie Weber, Whitney Fox and Kuirstin Pilkinton, sophomore Erin Frey, freshmen Erin Schuh and Isabella Osborne, and enough young players to field a JV squad.
Second-year coach Tim Boonstra will get help this season from volleyball alum Christina Purtell (LBHS 2012).
The Lady Lions were scheduled to host Okanogan Tuesday (Sept. 10) at 5 p.m. They will host Tonasket in non-league play Thursday (Sept. 12) at 5 p.m. and travel to Concrete on Saturday (Sept. 14) to play the Lions at 1 p.m.
