The 42nd annual Labor Day Rodeo organized by the Methow Valley Horsemen drew a respectable turnout of both competitors and spectators last Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 31-Sept. 1).
Cowboys and cowgirls from out of town dominated the lineup, with four Oregon riders making a sweep of the first day’s ranch saddle bronc event. One of those, Austin Rawlins of Bend, placed second both days and his Sunday score of 81 was the highest of the weekend.

In one of the more predictable outcomes, 13-year-old Riata Marchant of Omak again walked away with top prize money in barrel racing with a time of 18.75 seconds to lead Saturday’s go-round, and an 18.87 the following day. The 2012 Little Miss Rodeo Washington also won both events at the Memorial Day Rodeo last May.

Local saddle bronc and bull rider Aaron Hammer placed out of the money in his events. Hammer is still recovering from a broken arm bone he sustained at the Wenatchee Rodeo last May.
