The Bear Creek Junior Golf Team hosted its first competition outside of its own program when junior golfers from Alta Lake were invited to a nine-hole tournament at Bear Creek on Aug. 28.
The Alta Lake team brought three players, two 11-year-olds and one aged 9, to square off against four Bear Creek players ranging in age from 8 to 14.
“We teed off in two groups of players from each team, which allowed the golfers from each program to get to know each other,” said coach Jill Sheley.
Each player’s score was tallied for nine holes. The lowest three scores from Bear Creek were added together for a combined score of 210. The Alta Lake combined score was 203.
“The teams were well matched in terms of ability,” Sheley said. “Bear Creek individual scores tallied were 67, 68 and 75, and Alta Lake scores were 63, 65 and 75.”
The Alta Lake team has invited Bear Creek to play the Alta Lake course in another tournament in late September.
