Open Merc! coming again

The Merc Playhouse in Twisp will  host Open Merc! on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The free event is hosted by Egon Steinebach. Musicians and performers of all types are invited to join the fun and practice their skills in a casual, coffee house-style venue. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Haitian art show continues

A Haitian art exhibit at The Studio in Twisp will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the next three weekends, Aug. 24 and 31 and Sept. 7. Most artwork is for sale and all proceeds go directly to the artists and their families. For more information, call 997-0211.

 

Barn dance at The Barn

The Winthrop Barn will host a “Good Ole Labor Day Rodeo Barn Dance” on Aug. 31 from 8 p.m. to midnight, featuring the Eagle River Band. Cost is $5; kids under 12 are free. For more information, email info@winthropbarn.com.

 

OVOC rehearsals

The Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus will soon begin rehearsals for the upcoming fall concert.

The first choral rehearsal, under the direction of Jonathan McBride, will be from 7:30-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, at Community Presbyterian Church (9 S. Birch St.) in Omak. Subsequent choral rehearsals will be every Monday at the Omak High School Band Room from 7:30-9 p.m.

Orchestra, under the direction of Don Pearce, will meet every Tuesday, starting Sept. 3, at the Omak High School Band Room from 6:30-8:30 p.m. For more information, call Lynn Hoover at (509) 322-0261.

 

Merc’s new artistic director

The Merc Playhouse in Twisp will host public “meet the director” gatherings for the theater’s new artistic director, Ki Gottberg, on Sept. 5, 6 and 8. The Sept. 5 and 6 meetings will be for adults, from 6-8 p.m. The Sept. 8 meeting will be for teenagers, from 2-4 p.m. Gottberg will discuss possibilities for future shows with potential actors, directors, costumers, set builders, painters, stage managers, those interested in lighting, sound, props, set dressing, and more.
