Methow Valley News reporter Ann McCreary has been selected to attend a “Climate Change Seminar for Journalists,” sponsored by the Metcalf Institute and the Seattle Times, in Seattle in September.
The seminar is designed to help journalists report about how climate change is affecting their own communities. It will focus on regional effects of climate change in the Pacific Northwest, featuring four sessions that each investigates a different aspect of climate change science and the relevance of these climate-driven shifts for news audiences. Topics include forest and watershed ecosystem responses to climate change, and effects on regional water supplies.
McCreary was selected from a field of applicants from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.
The Metcalf Institute, established at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography in 1997, provides environmental science training for journalists. The institute also offers communication workshops for scientists, science resources for journalists and free public lectures on environmental topics.
