Dino Shot
It isn’t often that a guy gets the chance to shoot a triceratops but that was one of the targets young bow hunters Kaleb Watson, 10, of Thatcher, Ariz. (left), and Sam Hildebrand, 9, from Wenatchee practiced on at last weekend’s second annual High Mountain Challenge held at the Loup Loup Ski Bowl. Photo by Mike Maltais
Free physicals
The Country Clinic and other local health care providers will once again provide free physicals for local school athletes before they are allowed to compete. The physicals will be available on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Liberty Bell High School. For more information, call 996-2215.
Register for Gran Fondo
Cyclists interested in giving the upcoming Gran Fondo Winthrop a spin are encouraged to register soon, since the 80-mile event is limited to just 200 riders and registration closes Aug. 2.
A gran fondo is a long-distance cycling event and celebrated tradition in Italian cycling culture. The Winthrop version will leave the Barn at 8 a.m. on Aug. 4 and take riders deep into the North Cascades, with nearly 10,000 feet of climbing, much of it on primitive U.S. Forest Service roads.
The cost to participate in the Gran Fondo Winthrop is $65 with registration available at www.bikereg.com.
