Mail will be for early birds in Carlton

June 25, 2013 by Methow Valley News

Carlton-Post-Office-postBeginning July 27, Carlton post office customers will have morning hours for retail and other window services, with the last collection time at 11:30 a.m. Window hours will be from 7:45 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Saturday hours, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., will not change.

It takes about two hours for mail to be sorted and distributed in post office boxes, according to Pat Ebbert, Carlton’s officer-in-charge. Access to the lobby will still be available 24 hours a day.

The U.S. Postal Service distributed a survey to Carlton’s 257 customers and held a meeting last week for additional feedback.

Eighty-nine percent of respondents preferred a reduction in hours to closing the post office or providing services through a retail outlet.
