Liberty Bell High School varsity tennis coach Dave Schulz will be at Sun River, Ore., Saturday (June 22) to compete at the United States Tennis Association Senior 55+65 Tournament. Schulz will once again join other members of the Wenatchee Recreation and Activities Club (WRAC) with whom he has played for over a decade.
“We have lost a couple of players so our team is weaker this year,” Schulz said.
Nonetheless, Team WRAC had to win the USTA district competition held earlier at Tri-Cities to earn the right to advance to the Sun River event. Schulz and his teammates won their division at Sun River in 2011 and qualified for the USTA Super Senior National Championships at Tucson, Ariz., and finished third in the nation.
“The oldest competitive age bracket was 65 and older then,” Schulz said. “Now that division has been changed to 60 and older,” Schulz explained, citing the declining numbers of senior players.
