League champion Lady Lions seeded first at districts

May 19, 2013 by Methow Valley News

BY MIKE MALTAIS

The Liberty Bell High School varsity girls’ softball team, league champions of the Central Washington B League North, will take their show on the road to East Wenatchee’s Sterling Field as the No. 1 seed entering district play against either Lake Roosevelt or White Swan at 3 p.m. Saturday (May 18).

If the Lady Lions win they will be back on the field 30 minutes later for game two.

The 12-3 Lady Lions breezed by Lake Roosevelt, 16-6 and 13-3, in two five-inning home games last Saturday (May 11) and honored departing seniors Cierra Ebbert and Tamara Klein in the process.

Lily Darwood pitched the first game, walked five and only allowed five hits, said coach Lee Pilkinton. Of the 12 hits against the Raiders, Ebbert accounted for four in four at-bats while Korrie Perryman and Torie Weber hit 2-4 and 2-3 respectively.

Kelsey Baldwin took over the mound in the second game, walked four and held Lake Roosevelt to four hits. Offensively, Perryman and Kuirstin Pilkinton both hit a perfect 4-4.

The league softball coaches met Monday (May 13) to make their All-League selections and when it was over seven Lady Lions were on the list.

Baldwin was voted Pitcher of the Year and Baylee Canedo captured Catcher of the Year honors. Perryman and Ebbert were voted to the All-League First Team. Pilkinton and Darwood made the All-League Second Team. Lee Pilkinton was named Coach of the Year.
