Red Apple polishes trophy
The 18-man Red Apple Market senior softball team was named division champion in the Wenatchee Golden Age League earlier this week in a close competition with runner-up Fowlers of Wenatchee. The two teams were so close in wins and losses that the final decision came down to a game-by-game comparison of team batting stats.
Team member Dennis Brown reported Monday (July 27) that after the figures were tallied, Red Apple won in a squeaker by only two runs.
The senior league is comprised of about 15 teams of 50-and-older players competing in three divisions. They meet for doubleheader games throughout the summer in Chelan, Omak or Winthrop. Members of the Red Apple championship team are Brown, coach Dan Stanley, Mike Walker, Bart Northcott, Marv Tracy Walt Holcom, Phil Lund, Neil Riebe, Aaron Burkhart, Greg Biell, Don Maples, Lynn Miller, Lee Pilkinton, Terry Marchiney, Bob Jateff, Rod Gardner, Ron Bryson and John Jumper
