Fire Adapted Winthrop will host a Firewise cleanup work party and demonstration on Sunday (May 20), next to 3 Bears Cafe & Quilts on Highway 20 in Winthrop, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to assist; you need not stay the entire time. Work will include pulling dead limbs and small trees out of thickets and moving them to a nearby chipper. Free snacks and bottled water bill be available for volunteers. Volunteers under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian permission.

Members of the public are invited to observe the cleanup and learn about fire preparedness. To volunteer and for more details, call Nancy Farr at 996-2017.

A major objective of the Fire Adapted Winthrop program is to build awareness of the importance, the responsibility, and the steps for community members doing their part to make the community more safe and defensible.
