The Liberty Bell High School girls’ and boys’ tennis teams nearly closed out their regular-season play last week with matching 3-2 losses to Okanogan on the Mountain Lions’ home courts last Thursday (May 3).

The boys were to play at Pateros on Tuesday (May 9), but not the girls.

The teams are now looking forward to post-season play in this weekend’s league tournament at the Omak Athletic Club, beginning Friday and continuing through Saturday. Seedings were to be determined this week, Liberty Bell coach Dave Schulz said. The coach said he expected some fairly high seedings for several Liberty Bell players.

Losers of the first matches are out of the tournament, Schulz said.

Against Okanogan, Liberty Bell’s Logan Butler lost 1-6, 1-6 in the girls’ No. 1 singles match. Ruthann Matteson won 8-1 in pro sets, while Shelby Vintin won 8-0. In doubles, Chloe Temple and Christina Dominguez lost, 1-8. Liberty bell forfeited the second doubles match.

On the boys’ side, Isaac Blodgett won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match, William Grubb lost 6-8, and Tim Haley won 8-3. Blodgett and Haley lost a doubles match, 2-8, while Konnor Dorn and Evan Butler were defeated by 3-8.
