Louise M. Higbee

Louise M. Higbee passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer.

She was born to Louis and Viola Neilson on May 27, 1935, in Seattle where she also grew up.

She met Larry Higbee in 1961 and they moved to Mazama where they were married on Oct. 22, 1962.

While living in Mazama they had two sons, Darin in 1968 and Danny in 1971.

The family moved to Winthrop in 1973 where they lived for 43 years. During her time in Winthrop, most people would know her from her many years at Farmers State Bank.

She enjoyed raising her family, gardening, taking walks, watching the Mariners and Seahawks, reading, playing pinochle (somehow she always knew what cards everyone was holding) and taking care of the neighborhood kids. Often, while her sons were growing up, you would see several kids at their house and she wouldn’t hesitate to make sure they were well fed and happy!

What she loved most was taking care of her family. She also extended her love to other family members, as well as, many others in need of a place to stay. You always had a bed and a warm meal at her home.

Louise also looked forward to the family reunion every year. Her favorite part was the Saturday morning softball game.

What family and friends will remember the most about Louise is her willingness to put others’ needs ahead of her own.

Larry and Louise moved to Okanogan in 2016 to be closer to family. She loved her new home where she enjoyed watching the river and wildlife. She was excited about her new garden and not having to worry about the deer getting to it before she could! She finally was able to grow her own zucchini!

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Larry; their sons Darin (Amy) and Danny (Cristina); grandchildren Casey, Blake, Zach, Emma, Kayla (Clayton), Shane (Jensen) and TJ; her sisters Judy (Mike) and Janice (Bill); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
