Ruth Irene Wilson

Ruth Irene Wilson, 89, of Winthrop, passed away at Jamie’s Place on Sept. 15, 2017. She was born May 6, 1928, to Archie and Ethel Abel in Omak, and raised in Riverside, where she graduated from high school in 1947. During high school, she met Dennis Wilson and on Oct. 9, 1949, they were married. In 1950 they moved to Twisp, where Dennis went to work in construction. Ruth worked in the fruit industry in the lower Methow. She also worked two stints for the U.S. Forest Service: one planting trees in the Cub Creek burn area; the second was cleaning campgrounds.

During the time her children and grandchildren were growing up, she never missed a sporting event. Dennis and Ruth ran with Paul and Frankie Waller and Lyle and Creta Walker.

Ruth enjoyed quilting, gardening, horseback riding, knitting and crocheting. She stayed busy with the American Legion Auxiliary: packing boxes for the VA Hospital in Spokane; making cookies for the Christmas at the End of the Road Celebration in Winthrop; and making pies for the annual meeting of the Okanogan County Electric Cooperative.

Ruth is survived by her sister Betty Morris; her sons Dennis Wayne (Patty) Wilson, Gary (Linda) Wilson and Steve (Lorrie) Wilson; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, brothers Jim Abel and Urban Abel, and sister Genese Sasse.

A graveside service will be held at the Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop, at 11 a.m., on Saturday (Sept. 23), 2017. After the graveside service, all are invited to the Twisp Valley Grange for a potluck lunch. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Jamie’s Place. Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is caring for the arrangements.
