Alvin E. Hymer

Although Al was born in Montana, on Aug. 4, 1942, he moved to the Brewster/Pateros area early in his childhood and graduated from Brewster High School in 1960, and from Eastern Washington University in 1966. He died on July 1, 2017.

Al retired early from the DOE, but was far from retired. Al had a zest for life and stayed busy with his hobbies, his retirement jobs (airplane pilot, personal trainer, barista and baker, to name a few), his horses and his farm.

He truly loved living in this valley and all the recreation available. His hobbies included: dancing, listening to music, working out, rock climbing, camping, triathlons, politics, competing/training his horses, snowshoeing, white water canoeing, slalom skiing and windsurfing, skiing, reading, biking, and being with his friends and family.

On Aug. 11, 2005, he had his first date with Vickie Sadowsky and in 2012, they married in the community of Methow, where they farmed and enjoyed raising their many pets and working the farm and garden. In 2002, he opened SweetRiver Bakery and in 2007, his son Alex joined him in the running of the bakery.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie; sister Lynne; his five children: Cathy (Dave), Gary (Jenny), Alex, Morgan (Jon), and Jared (Tandi); 10 grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, and Denton Hymer, Blake and Evan Zdechlik, Autumn and Skylar Ehlers, and Kiona, Lynli, and Kason Sadowsky.

We would like to personally thank all the people who searched for Al and to all the people that kept us going that week — your kindness, love, diligence and perseverance brought Al home.

Please join us in celebrating Al’s life on July 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Pateros School Gym. Donations can be made in honor of Al to: www.ccvsar.org/donate.
