Danny A. Days

Danny A. Days, 81, of Twisp, passed away July 13, 2016, after a long and valiant battle with cancer, in his home surrounded by the love of his family, just three weeks shy of his 82nd birthday and 65th wedding anniversary.

Danny was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Twisp to Ernest O. and Mary C. (Adams) Days. He attended Twisp schools until going to work in the Alder gold and copper mine. He married the love of his life, Cleo J. Barnett, on Aug. 7, 1951, on his 17th birthday. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and soon they were on their way to Corpus Christi, Texas, where both Johnny and Tommy were born. His tour during the Korean War put him onboard the USS John W. Thomason patrolling the coasts of Taiwan. Danny was very proud of his service to the United States of America and in later years was able to be in touch with several of his shipmates via the Internet. After his honorable discharge, Danny and Cleo moved to Seattle, where Susan was born, and worked for the Boeing fire department before returning to the Methow Valley to work as a logger driving his own Cat, then later as a millwright at the Twisp mill.

He belonged to the American Legion and had, in recent years, served as post commander. He was a member of the Methow Valley United Methodist Church. Danny loved hunting and fishing as well as just going for long drives exploring the back roads, taking in the beauty of the scenery and wildlife. He loved a good game of horseshoes, getting a nice load of wood, a winning hand of cribbage and an ice-cold beer. Above all else he cherished his family and friends and his dog Toby.

Danny is survived by his wife, Cleo, of Twisp; son Johnny (Lorna) of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; son Tommy of Malott; daughter Susan (Bart) Northcott of Twisp; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roy and sister Lola.

A graveside service will be held for Danny at Beaver Creek Cemetery on Saturday (July 30), at 11 a.m. Precht-Harrison-Nearants Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny’s name to the American Legion, Twisp, Frontier Home Health Care/Hospice, or to the Lookout Coalition at through Room One in Twisp.
