Town officials are hoping to open the Wagner Memorial Pool on Monday (July 11) if it can be filled and heated in time.

Contractors were wrapping up work on resurfacing the pool, a project that has taken longer than anticipated.

A final coating was being applied to the interior of the pool and new tile will be installed around the gutters of the pool before filling it, said Andrew Denham, Twisp public works director.

“We plan to open Monday if we can get the pool up to temperature,” he said.

The pool’s status will be posted on the Twisp website or on a notice on the pool doors to let people know if it will open Monday as hoped, Denham said. Opening time is 6 a.m. for lap swim.

Pool lifeguards were working this week to help clean up the pool facility and get ready for opening.

“We’re going to be open as much as we possibly can, and that will include Sundays, which we hadn’t planned, dependent on staffing,” Denham said.

The pool resurfacing project was intended to be completed in two phases over two summers, with the goal of eliminating a perennial leakage problem.

However, Twisp officials decided to complete both phases this year to prevent further leaking that could compromise the work completed this summer.
