National Fishing and Boating Week will be celebrated with a free Kids’ Fishing Day, offering a variety of events, at the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery on Saturday (June 11) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Kids 12 years old and younger will be allowed to fish in the hatchery trout pond, following a Passport to Fishing format in which they will attend short activities and presentations to get their passport stamped prior to fishing. There is a one-fish limit per angler.

Activities and informational presentations include the Beaver Station, boating safety, rolling rivers, fish art, Gyotaku fish printing, macroinvertebrates, Methow Recycles, hands-on casting, tribal salmon cooking, a fly-casting demonstration and a fly-tying demonstration.

The hatchery is off of Twin Lakes Road just outside of Winthrop. For more information, call 996-2424.
