Liberty Bell goalkeeper Mikey Hafsos made one of his many dramatic saves against Manson.

The Liberty Bell High School boys’ soccer team hung tough with a good Manson squad before falling, 2-1, on a late-game free kick in a home match on April 26.

Both teams scored in the first few minutes, with Rowan Post driving the ball into the net for Liberty Bell. Then it was back and forth with no other scoring, thanks in large part to several spectacular stops by Mountain Lion goalkeeper Mikey Hafsos. The agile footwork of Liberty Bell’s Jed Butler got the Mountain Lions close a few times, but without finding the net.

Late in the game, an illegal contact with the ball by a Mountain Lion player gave Manson a free kick, which rocketed past Hafsos as he dove to block it.

The Mountain Lions were scheduled to play a home match against Okanogan on Tuesday (May 3). On Thursday (May 5), Liberty Bell hosts Oroville at 4:30 p.m. for senior night.

Liberty Bell is 0-10 in league play and 2-10 overall.
