The first home game of the season produced the first win of the season for the Liberty Bell High School softball team, which split four games in three days of action last week.

The Lady Lions started the week with a 12-11 loss at Pateros on March 28, giving up an 8-0 lead, coach Lee Pilkinton said.

The next day, on their home diamond for the first time, Liberty Bell overwhelmed Waterville, 21-6. Devin Surface was the winning pitcher.

Ali Palm went 3 for 4 at the plate, Nadine Treise was 2 for 4 with a double, Surface added 2 hits in 4 at-bats, Lauren Ochoa tripled and went 2 for 4, and Carlynn Treise belted a home run for one of her 2 hits in 4 at-bats.

On Friday (April 1), Liberty Bell played a double-header at home against Oroville. The visiting Hornets jumped out a quick lead in the opener, and the Lady Lions couldn’t recover, losing 14-6. Surface pitched and went 2 for 3 with a triple, Ochoa was 3 for 4, and Janie McMillan added two hits including a double.

The Lady Lions recovered in the second game, a three-inning affair that ended with Liberty Bell winning, 15-0. Surface was the winning pitcher for Liberty Bell, and went 1 for 4 at the plate. Ochoa was 2 for 3 with a double, and Carlynn Treise was 1 for 3.

After spring break, the Lady Lions — who are 2-3 for the season — host Tonasket on Tuesday (April 12) to begin another busy week that doesn’t involve travel. Liberty Bell hosts Brewster on April 14, then plays a double-header against visiting Bridgeport on April 16.
