It’s mud season in the Methow Valley and that, of course, means dirty dogs. For owners who don’t want to deal with their messy, smelly pets, a new dog and cat grooming business has just opened in Twisp.

Yodog! at 114 N. Glover St. opened for business in mid-March, offering baths, haircuts, nail trimming and other pet grooming needs.

Owner and groomer Kristin McFadyen said animals have always been a part of her life so creating a business around them made sense.

“I’ve had a dog my whole life and it was always my job to take care of them. I started volunteering at an animal shelter when I was 12, and was dog grooming and training before I moved here,” she said.

McFadyen said she decided to open her pet grooming business because “it seems there’s a need for it.”

Her shop on Glover Street is equipped with a big tub for bathing, including steps for larger dogs to climb so she doesn’t have to lift them up to put them in.

A bath and haircut package for dogs includes three washings, drying and brushing, nail trimming, anal glands and ear cleaning, and pad trim. McFadyen offers a similar package geared to cats.

Prices vary depending on the size of the pet, the condition of their hairdo, and their temperament.

“You get dogs that aren’t super happy to be here,” McFadyen said. But she said she knows how to work around a nervous customer — carefully.

“They’re dogs. They have teeth. You need to know dog behavior,” she said.

YoDog! is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The phone number is 997-DOGS.
