Kathleen Mary Mellinger, 80, died peacefully at Providence Hospital in Everett on April 17, 2014, with her family by her side. Born April 19, 1933, in Seattle, Kathleen graduated from Bothell High School in 1951. She met and married her husband, Chet Desmarteau, in 1953, started her family and became a homemaker. In 1973, after Chet passed away, she started a career as a secretary, first with State Farm Insurance, and later at Shoreline Community College. In 1980, she retired and moved to Sun Mountain Ranch in Winthrop with her husband, Bob Mellinger.
Kathleen was active in the Sun Mountain Ranch Club community, and belonged to bridge clubs, a sewing club and the local chapter of TOPS. She enjoyed traveling, hunting, camping, gardening, cross-stitching, painting with oils and watercolors, her companion shih-tzu Jackson, and her many friends throughout the valley. A service was held in her memory at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline on April 22, 2014. Donations in her memory may be made to Aero Methow Rescue Service or the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include her brothers, Glen Rollman and Jack Rollman (Sandy); sister, Joan Bassen of Winthrop; five children, Marie Barrett (Gary), Mona Prescott (David), Michael Desmarteau (Lynda), Diane Lange (David), and Kevin Desmarteau; five grandchildren, Adrienne Barrett, Lindsey Sosa (Carlos), Chris Lange (Jenn), Shane Lange and Nathan Lange; great-grandson, Johnny, and many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Chet Desmarteau; her husband of 11 years, Bob Mellinger; her brothers, Gerald, Jim and Joe Rollman; and her parents, Lawrence and Mary Rollman.
