The new Cascades Outdoor Store on Riverside Avenue in Winthrop will have an informal open house on Thursday (May 22) from 4 – 6 p.m. before an official grand opening at 10 a.m. on Friday, owners Brian and Amy Sweet said this week.
Brian Sweet said construction has been underway for about three months, led by Larry Miller and crew from Big Picture Construction. The store is almost entirely rebuilt from the former Grubstake & Co. building, next to Town Hall, that once was Winthrop’s post office. It will have about 2,000 square feet of retail space and will offer all-season outdoor gear and clothing.
The Sweets formerly owned the Trail’s End Bookstore. After they sold the bookstore in 2010, they purchased a bakery in Jackson, N.H. After selling the bakery, they returned to the Methow Valley late last year.
