David Jack Williams

Dear Dave passed away on April 18, 2014, surrounded by his wife, Kathy, stepdaughter Emily Lints, granddaughter Maggie Lints and sister Diane Woolard. He was 64 years old, born May 11, 1949 in Rocky Mount, N.C. His life was filled with many adventures ranging from deep sea diving in the 1970s to mountain climbing and skiing. Probably his dearest time was spent on the salt water rowing and sailing to beloved islands in the San Juans and Canada in his umiak, which he and Kathy built together.

His legacy includes crafting numerous classic wooden boats, building beautiful custom homes in the valley, keeping the Methow Valley Sport Trails Association’s Sun Mountain Nordic trails groomed in perfect corduroy, and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. Chronic pain issues clouded his later life but he often said he had “had a good ride.”

He will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who willingly accepted risks and challenges in pursuit of a full life well lived. He was immersed in his love of nature and its entire cathedral and was truly a man of the sea. He is wished fair winds and following seas in his next journey by the many friends, family and dog, Seal, that he leaves behind. A simple (as he would have wished) celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later time in the summer.
