Here we are in May. Wow. Don’t forget that May 11 is Mother’s Day. If you are like me, you need to plan ahead and mail that card or order those flowers. We moms deserve a day of our own to be pampered and waited upon. Kind of payback time for all those diapers we washed. I am here to tell you, at times that was a real labor of love! Whew!

We have two member birthdays this month: Bev Holcomb on May 1 and Lloyd Bjerge on May 2. If you are a member and not mentioned here, you either are becoming forgetful because your birthday is actually in October, or you haven’t filled out our little vital statistics card. Ask for a card to fill out and maybe we will also throw in a magic decoder ring.

Friday (May 2) is Dance Day. Those wild and crazy folks from Okanagan/Omak will be down in their high-heeled sneakers ready to dance the afternoon away. Come join them for fun and frolic.

Royalty for the Winthrop ’49er Days celebration dined with us on Monday (April 28). We didn’t know whether to salute, bow or genuflect. How great to be the king and queen! Way to go!

The sun is shining, birds are singing and we are getting ready for the Western Sale. The official opening of this event is Memorial Day weekend for the whole shootin’ match. For you tenderfoots who occasionally visit, that means we have a whole lot of cool stuff you will have to wait to see. However, in honor of ’49er Days, we will have Western clothes, hats and boots for sale on Saturday (May 3). Hurry in to get the best Western outfit available. You betcha, pardner.  I will see you there. We have a great Stetson hat, size zero it seems. Maybe it was fine and I am just a fat head. Who knows?

Thursday, May 1: Bacon, broccoli and Swiss cheese quiche, pasta salad, spinach salad, mixed melons, blueberry muffin.

Friday, May 2: Spaghetti and meat sauce, green beans, Caesar salad, fruit cup, garlic bread, sherbet.

Monday, May 5: Chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, trio of vegetables, tossed vegetable salad, whole wheat roll, apple crisp.

Thursday, May 8: Pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, spinach, tossed vegetable salad, applesauce, whole wheat bread or roll, Jell-O with topping.

Friday, May 9: Tater tot casserole, cottage cheese, green beans, carrot-raisin salad, whole wheat bread or roll, peaches over ice cream.

Meals are at noon in the Methow Valley Senior Center on Highway 20 in Twisp. The suggested donation is $3.25 for seniors over age 60; cost is $8 for those under 60. For more information, call 997-7722.
