Behind a string of season-best performances, the Liberty Bell High School boys’ track and field team placed an impressive third among a roster heavy with 1A and 2A teams at the Cashmere Invitational last Saturday (April 12).
The Mountain Lions boys tallied 50.25 points to finish behind 1A competitors Zillah and King’s in a field of 21 schools that included only three other B teams.
Coach Rocky Kulsrud said that the competitive field included “some really good track schools, and our guys did great.”
Among the season-best performances was Liam Daily’s first-place 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 1.27 seconds.
Other season-best results came from Kelsey Jensen in the 300-meter hurdles, Micah Klemmeck in the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump, Jaymis Hanson in the long jump, Andrew Reggiatore in the triple jump and 200 meters, Jose Dominguez in 100-, 200-, and 400-meter races, Isaac Cordes in discus, and the 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams, each of which finished third with season-best times.
On the girls’ team, season-best performances came from Lilly Schlotzhauer in the 800-meter run and Sarina Williams with a fifth-place javelin throw.
Ben Klemmeck won the 1,500 meter race. Austin Watson finished second in the long jump and fourth in the 100-meter run. Micah Klemmeck took fourth in the triple jump while Hanson placed sixth in long jump and high jump.
The Mountain Lions will travel to Kittitas on Friday (April 18) to compete in the K Valley Rally.
