Winthrop snowboarders Stephen Stiles and Zyan Shull led the field among local competitors at the fourth annual Loup Snowboard Races last Saturday and Sunday at the Loup Loup Ski Bowl.

Stiles, Loup Snowboard Team assistant coach, finished first in the senior men’s division in Sunday’s two slalom races and placed second in both of Saturday’s giant slalom events.

Shull, competing for the Loup Snowboard Team, dominated both days with first-place finishes in all four races for boys 10 and 11 years old.

“People traveled all the way from Olympia,” said coach Gene Shull. “We had several repeat competitors travel to our race.”

The Loup Snowboard Race is part of the Inland Northwest Snowboard Competition Series and allows both youngsters and adults to qualify for the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) National Championships that will be held at Copper Mountain, Colo., March 29 – April 8.
