The Liberty Bell High School varsity wrestlers worked out some pre-season kinks against Oroville, Omak, Lake Roosevelt and host Okanogan at the Okanogan Jamboree on Thursday (Dec. 5) before taking on the 1A Caribou Trail League teams at the Omak Tournament on Saturday (Dec. 7).

The Mountain Lions entered 10 wrestlers in nine weight classes against opponents from Omak, Chelan, Brewster, Cascade, Warden, Okanogan, Cashmere and Tonasket and came away with an overall fifth place at the Omak Tournament.

Junior Emmett Fink took home Liberty Bell’s only first place after polishing off three opponents to win his 152-pound weight class. Fink defeated Caio Baumstein of Tonasket by a pin in 1 minute, 36 seconds, pinned Zach Lofthus of Tonasket in 3:42 and won a 7-0 decision over Chelan’s Jairo De La Cruz in the finals.

Danny Rodriguez started things off at 106 pounds with a 10-7 loss to Omak’s Dallas Joe. Rodriguez then lost in a consolation round to Dylan Lewis of Cascade.

Junior Trent Skelton took a first-round bye into his first match against Warden’s John Martinez. After pinning Martinez in 2 minutes, 34 seconds Skelton lost in the finals by a 4-2 decision to Collin Aitcheson of Tonasket for second place.

Freshman Kaleb Martin squared off against two opponents in the 138-pound bracket. Martin’s first opponent was Raul Martinez of Warden, who won by a 4-1 decision. Later in the afternoon Martin wrestled Brewster’s Omar Castro and was pinned three minutes into the match.

Sophomore Meritt Fink defeated Julian Buyas of Chelan, 6-4, in his first match at 145 pounds. Fink then pinned Okanogan’s Randy Hamilton in 1:26 to advance to the finals against Raf Varelas of Brewster. Varelas won by a 6-5 decision.

Senior Milo Holston defeated teammate Ivan Johnson in the 160-pound class by a pin in 1:17 to meet Brock Steele of Cashmere. Holston lost to Steele, 2-1, for third place.

Johnson defeated Caleb Lofthus of Tonasket by a pin in 3:22 but lost to Warden’s Emilio Pruneda by a pin in 4:44.

Sophomore Tyson Coleman at 170 pounds was pinned by Okanogan’s Corbin Ranck in 2:24. Coleman later defeated Saul Garcia of Chelan by a pin in 5:15 to advance against Dallas Tyus of Tonasket. Coleman lost to Tyus by a pin in 3:44.

Senior Colt Jack at 195 was pinned by Joe Mintzer of Okanogan in 1:18. Jack then lost to Cascade’s Atanacio Herrera by a pin in 3:54.

Junior Stoney Hulon met former teammate Dreton Acord at 285 pounds. Acord, wrestling for Okanogan, beat Hulon by a pin in 2:13. Hulon went on to pin Joseph Lopez of Tonasket in 3:38 but lost in the next round to Chelan’s Jose Padilla by a pin in 3:33.

The Mountain Lions were scheduled to host Okanogan on Tuesday (Dec. 10) followed by Tonasket at 7 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 12).
