Let the holiday season begin, but let’s keep safety in mind. At this time of year many of us will be using wood-burning stoves, gas stoves, baseboard heating, or other types of heat sources. Before using these things make sure your carbon monoxide tester and smoke detectors are working. This is a good time to replace smoke detector batteries or push the test buttons to make sure they function.

Always keep a clear path and keep all flammable products away from a heat source. If you are going to light candles or have additional lighting around the house, make sure you blow them out or turn them off before going to bed.

Put out salt or sand on your walkways to avoid slipping of falling. Stock up on extra food and water in case of power outages, and when traveling make sure you leave plenty of time to get to your destination. Now is also a good time to look at the emergency survival kit in your vehicle and make sure you have all the necessary things.
