Registration is now open for youngsters who want to play ice hockey this winter. Players from 5 to 15 years old born between 1998 and 2008 are eligible, and no prior skating or hockey experience is required.
“We will have some practices early in the season just for kids who want to learn,” said coach Nigel Mott.
Sign-up forms are available at the Methow Valley Elementary School office.
Registration costs include $90 for the program and $50 for equipment rental. That figure “has been reduced by $25 from last year to help encourage more kids to come out and play,” Mott said.
Players must be registered by Nov. 15.
Equipment will be handed out from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4-5 at the Winthrop ice rink.
“Players must be registered and have paid prior to receiving equipment,” Mott said.
The first practice at the Winthrop rink will be Dec. 9, conditions permitting. Practices will be held every Monday and Wednesday after school. No practices will be scheduled from Dec. 22, 2013, through Jan. 6, 2014, or from Jan. 20, 2014, through Feb. 17, 2014. The last practice will be on Feb. 26, 2014.
“There are currently no plans for a traveling team this year,” Mott said. “We will schedule some exhibition games in Moses Lake and/or Wenatchee if there are enough players to form a team.”
