Kids’ concert for the Congo
Young musicians are holding a concert to raise money for an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Peter and Liv Aspholm and Keeley Brooks have asked about 15 friends to join them in the concert. There will be solos and some duets on piano, guitar, violin and cello. Peter, Liv and Keeley became interested in the project after seeing a presentation by Linda and Wayne Mendro about their work with the orphanage, which the kids found particularly compelling because it directly helps children. The concert will also feature the screening of a film made by Johnnie Duguay when she joined her grandparents (the Mendros) on a trip to the Congo this past year.
The concert is Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Methow Valley United Methodist Church. Admission is by donation, and people are encouraged to contribute whatever they can, whether it’s just coins or larger amounts. For more information, contact Linda Mendro at 997-6070 or Peter Aspholm at 997-9954.
